The Little Mt. Guanyin (Little Guanyinshan) is 45.5m high, and consists of three main hills. The name "Guanyin" is from the Guanyin Bodhisattva enshrined and worshipped in the Baozangyan Temple at the foot of the southern hill. Since the Xindianxi flowing alongside forms a natural border, in days of old Guanyinshan served as a self-defense stronghold on the southern frontier area of the Taipei Basin. A drum pavilion was built for use as a lookout and for the sounding of alarms. Due to the fact that the mountain has in recent times been a military control zone, the lack of development and rich water resources have enabled the preservation of a predominantly natural ecological system, which is, beside Zhishanyan, Taipei's another rare forest displaying an indigenous forest form.
Entering from the hiking trail beside the Museum of Drinking Water, the footway goes through the Pressure Relief Tower, a sightseeing platform, , and the Pipe Sculpture Area, or ascending alongside the driveway of the Water Park then turning right to the stone stairwell. The latter route goes through a pavilion and the Guanyinshan Reservior. It takes about 30 minutes on foot to circle the mountain – approximately 600m. The climate is usually cool and pleasant, and there are a variety of animals and plants to be seen.
