Angular Fruit Fig or Hauil Fig Tree (Lingguorong)

The Angular Fruit Fig (Lingguorong) is an indigenous Taiwan plant. The name comes from the angular fruit surface. The main trunk is thick and hard, allowing the trees to grow higher and thicker.
The fruit is a favorite of macaques, ants, insects, and birds. Since it is not easily digested, it passes through the digestive system and is contained within excrement, enabling the seed to "travel" and propagate.
There are certain features useful for identification: (1) The leaves are long and oval-shaped or reverse-egg-shaped. Since the leaves are bigger than tcommon banyan leaves, they are also called "Big-Leaf Banyan" (Dayerong). (2) They are rich in milk – one shallow cut or a pluck of a leaf will engender significant leakage of grey-white juice. (3) Vertical edges and grey-white spots cover the syconus.
