Taiwan Barbets (Wuseniao) are an endangered and protected Taiwan species. The name "Wuse" (five colors) is from the five colors on their feathers.
Their body length is between 20 and 23cm, and there are many black tassels on their beaks. The color of their bodies is mainly emerald, the head is mostly blue, some yellow color can be seen on the forehead and the throat, a small portion of red color can be found in front of the eyes and the front neck, the eyes and on top of the ear feathers are black, the beak is black. Due to their colorful feathers, they are also called "Flowery Monk" (Huaheshang). The sound of these barbets is monotonous but loud and clear, like knocking at a wooden fish (a Buddhist percussion instrument). They prefer woods with a lot of dead woods where they can easily build their nests.
